About me

I've been writing software for more than 20 years, ever since I taught myself to code at 14. I started my career on a Deutsche Bank trading floor in Singapore, then moved back into engineering with roles at Symphony (encrypted communications), Apple and Change.org.

In 2015 I founded my first company, Real Folk, building custom software for the governments of British Columbia and the Yukon. With a team of four, Real Folk became the first company in BC's history to score 100% on the province's technical challenge. That beat Deloitte, KPMG, Ernst & Young, PwC, NTT Data and Microsoft, and won us major government engagements.

Those years taught me the principle behind everything I do now: a small team with the right direction can outbuild a much larger one. I've spent my career learning how to build software that solves real customer problems the right way. That means software that's robust, reliable and a joy to use.

Today I bring that approach to startups as the Founder & Principal Engineer of Steadily. Startups are among the most resource-constrained teams anywhere, and they still have to pull off a miracle: turn an idea and some capital into a product business that scales fast. My job is to make that a reality. I help teams get clear on what they're building and why, then build it in the most efficient and sustainable way possible.
